All of my online research tells me that TIVA is considered General Anesthesia when it comes to coding and billing. Am I wrong and if so, why? Also, is this something that is payer specific?

The anesthesia method should be indicated on the anesthesia record. If your providers choose to primarily use MAC, you need to become familiar with your state's MAC LCD list of co-morbidity diagnoses approved for MAC anesthesia.
